LDNmeetsMNL introduces to you DannieBoi, an RnB artist signed to one of the biggest music labels in the Philippines, Viva Records. His first album “DannieBoi” was released independently with Synergy, but he considers his second album “Soundtrip” with Viva as his ‘real’ debut album. Collaborating production skills with the popular home-grown Hip Hop act Dice and K9 MOBBSTARR, they have brought forth DannieBoi’s own brand of RnB and Hip Hop. Or in DannieBoi’s words, “Soundtrip… a mixture of different genres… a unique sound”. One of the album’s songs ‘Shake That Thing’ feat. Beatmonx, has recently earned him his first nomination at the MYX Awards 2009 for Favourite Urban Video. (For those in the P.I. you can vote for DannieBoi by texting MMA 65 to 2366 til Feb 24.)
LDNmeetsMNL recently caught up with DannieBoi to find out more about his love for music and upcoming projects.
LDN: Dannie, thank you for taking time out to speak with us. First and foremost, why is music so important to you?
Dannie: Music is the only thing that can break boundaries. People from all walks of life and from different races, regions, beliefs, can somehow be a fan of the same song! It’s a beautiful thing.
LDN: … And your influences?
Dannie: Wow there are SO MANY, but to name a few: Michael Jackson, Usher, Justin Timberlake, R.Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Prince, James Brown, Omarion, Ne-yo, Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, 2Pac, Kanye West, T-Pain, and many more!
LDN: What’s your favourite song of the moment and why?
Dannie: HEARTLESS by Kanye West, is my favourite song at the moment. I just love the instruments he uses and the melody is DOPE, not to mention the lyrics are very interesting. I can see it comes from the heart when he wrote it.
LDN: If you could record with anyone else who would it be?
Dannie: Either Kanye West, or T.I. because they are so talented.
DannieBoi is definitely making those connections with international artists. Step forward Star Trak artist, Malice of The Clipse. Can’t believe it right? Well it’s true! DannieBoi recorded “Rolling Up” with Malice in Virginia Beach, a track which he is also releasing Stateside. If that wasn’t enough, he’s also recently recorded an official Philippines remix to Chingy’s new release “Anotha One” featuring Dice and K9; and is also in talks for a possible tour with the Def Jam artist.

Also look out for Dannie in the upcoming Viva Film releases. “Single” with Rufa Mae Quinto and Alfred Vargas, which is directed by Joey Reyes. Plus recently in the war-time love story “Baler” with Jericho Rosales and Anne Curtis. This 2008 Metro Manila Film Festival Winner was directed by the multi-awarded director Mark Meily and produced by Vic del Rosario. And you may even see him in the latest Rachelle Anne Go music video
LDN: What are your hopes and plans for 2009?
Dannie: Hopefully more gigs, more movies and print ads! God willing my career will continue to climb. Philosophy-wise, it’s SIMPLE. What goes around comes around. If you want something, work hard for it. You control your destiny.
And that is exactly what Dannie is doing… working hard for his career. Rest assured, DannieBoi is destined for more continued success in the Philippines and hopefully on an international scale.
