For those people who do not know Francis, he is hailed as the “King of Pinoy Rap” and is also known as FrancisM, ‘Master Rapper’ and ‘The Man from Manila’. Aside from rapping he was also a song writer, producer, actor, director and photographer.

Francis is an inspiration to our kababayans as he was the first Filipino Rap artist to introduce the Philippines to a different sound of music that the country was alienated from.  Since his endless catalogue of hits he grew a huge fan base and became successful in his own right.

To name a few of Francis popular hits included Cold Summer Nights, Kaleidoscope World and Girl Be Mine. He had introduced rap to the Filipino music in the early 1990’s and this gave way for other fellow rap artists to follow in his footsteps but the “King of Pinoy Rap” stood out above the rest in terms of his popularity and success. Most of his lyrics reminded his fellow Filipino’s how great our culture is and how proud we should be of our roots.

Having recently passed away fans paid tribute to their hero by visiting his remains at the Funeraria Paz, in Quezon City before his last final journey to Christ The King Memorial Chapel. This showed how Francis had touched people’s lives and how he was a person who people loved and were inspired by.

On the 18th of March 2009, his family accepted a posthumous award – the Presidential Medal of Merit from President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, for promoting patriotism through this music.

Although he departed at a tender age of 44, Francis Magalona left behind a great legacy and although he is gone the Philippines will never forget the “King of Pinoy Rap”.
