Manila’s first world movie premiere was featured at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival in France. The Cannes official website articulated that Manila demonstrated “the violence and resentment endemic to Filipino society today.”
This two part film is divided into Manila by day and by night. It follows a drug addict named William who attempts to reconnect with the people around him, but he draws upon the conclusion that there is nobody left to trust including himself. Whilst William goes on his discovery, a bodyguard named Philip who works for the Mayor’s son and who is highly regarded as family, learns to discover the value of their relationship after a shooting incident. As a result he escapes, and begins to struggle whilst he is slowly overshadowed by the darkness that is lurking around the city.
Manila stars Piolo Pascual, Rosanna Roces, Jay Manalo and Alessandra de Rossi. Directors Adolfo Alix Jr. together with Raya Martin are delighted with the result of how far Manila has taken them, “We are happy to have the Philippine premiere after the screenings of Manila in Cannes and Moscow.”
This is the first movie that Piolo Pascual has produced and as a high profile actor in the Philippines, he decided to go a different path and venture into being part of this new opportunity. Piolo explains that he is proud of his “first produced movie” and is “happy with the final result and especially being premiered at the Cannes Film Festival”. For Piolo, he says that “It has been an honour for me.”
The Philippines now has the chance to see this independent movie which was release on the 22nd July at selected cinemas. It can also be seen on TFC Pay-per-view on specific dates, so please check your local listings.

I know right? It’s on TFC on a one-off pay-per-view, which is unfortunate, as I’d like to see this on the big screen here.
