Now that is most definitely the question weighing on Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino’s mind and shoulders. After the passing of his mother, Corazon Aquino and the recent death anniversary of his father Ninoy, the Filipino people have showed great support and governance for Noynoy to take on the 2010 Presidential Candidacy.
The Presidential race has been reignited with more people interested in it than before. We’re not talking about corruption for a change, but about politicians, most surprisingly Senator Mar Roxas’ withdrawal for the Presidential role, in order to pave the way for Noynoy.
With only a short time as a Senator, does this really make him a good candidate now to run for Presidency based on recent events? They say that he isn’t mature enough to do the job, but then again this could work to his advantage. He hasn’t got the bad habits and political baggage like the more ‘mature’ candidates and this appeals to his youth vote, but to appeal to the greater vote, he will need to promote himself a lot more.
I personally think that he’s not ready yet, but should he take up the challenge of reforming the Philippines, I believe that he wouldn’t risk destroying the legacy that his parents have left behind. Instead, he would choose to continue their fight for democracy and for an authority built on honesty and integrity. That would be what the Filipinos would hope for the future of their country.
The legacy of Ninoy and Cory are huge shoes to fill and only time will tell the fate Noynoy will lead.
What do you think?

As much as I would love to see another Aquino as president I think he needs to wait until he’s had more political experience. The world is thankfully full of people with good intentions, but these often quickly disappear if you don’t know what you’re doing.
I think perhaps a senior position in the next president’s cabinet will put him in a better placing for him to become president later. He’s part of a political legacy, we like having presidents whose names we already know - otherwise we’d just have President Arroyo (without the reminder of who her father was), we’ll wait for him to be ready.
